Antoine/Milena, 2015
Single channel video installation (16mm color/sound film transferred to HD), (3 minute excerpt)
"In the film work Antoine/Milena (2015), Lockhart trains her camera on Milena for an adaptation and recreation of an iconic sequence from François Truffaut’s 1959 film The 400 Blows. Bringing together elements of appropriation, installation, and the spirit of close collaboration between Lockhart and Milena, the film draws a poignant parallel between Truffaut’s protagonist Antoine and Milena’s search for agency and self-expression. Lockhart’s engagement with Truffaut and his work has its roots in the artist’s 1994 Audition series of photographic works in which she recreates an intimate exchange between five sets of adolescents."
